Dr. Pisu is an assistant Professor of Health
Administration in the Department of Health Services
Administration with a secondary appointment in
the Department of Preventive Medicine. Her research
emphasizes cost-effectiveness modeling and analyzing
health care utilization data from randomized control
trials. Recent work has included an UAB CERTS
study Costs of Glucocorticoid Adverse Events,
an analysis of the variation in charges and reimbursements
for medical procedures, and evaluating interventions
targeted at patients, physicians, and caregivers.
Dr. Pisu, is the lead investigator on the UAB
CERTS project Determining the Cost Effectiveness
of An Intervention to Increase Screening and Treatment
of Glucocorticoid-Induced Osteoporosis.
Current Projects:
Currently Dr. Pisu is working on modeling the
economic consequences of unsterile injection practices
in developing countries, on a model to determine
the cost-effectiveness of targeting adolescent
girls for receipt of a vaccine to prevent group
B streptococcal (GBS) disease among pregnant women
and newborns, and on evaluating the school based
dental sealant program conducted by the Jefferson
County Health Department.
